Prof. Rana M. Hameed is a Professor of Biochemistry and Head of the Department of Biochemistry at the College of Medicine. She has served as an academic researcher and senior lecturer since 2008, contributing extensively to medical education, scientific research, and academic leadership.

She earned her PhD in Biochemistry from Brunel University London, United Kingdom, in 2017, following her BSc and MSc degrees from the University of Baghdad, Iraq. Her academic career encompasses teaching, research supervision, scientific project leadership, and scholarly peer review for international academic journals.

Prof. Hameed's research interests span structural and clinical biochemistry, including biomarkers and clinical diagnostics, inborn errors of metabolism, endocrinology, signal transduction, cancer biochemistry, and the regulation of gene expression through epigenetic and non-coding RNA mechanisms. She also possesses expertise in advanced analytical methodologies, including chromatography, metabolomics, protein characterization, spectroscopy, and immunochemical techniques such as ELISA.

Throughout her career, she has actively participated in Master's and PhD research committees, led multidisciplinary scientific projects, and contributed to the advancement of biomedical research through statistical analysis, data interpretation, and scientific visualization.
