Overview

Imam Zain Al-Abidin Hospital is a tertiary multidisciplinary teaching hospital providing comprehensive medical and surgical services with modern diagnostic facilities. The hospital offers excellent clinical exposure through inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, emergency medicine, operating theatres, intensive care services, and advanced medical imaging. Students participate in supervised clinical learning within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

Internal Medicine

Training Scope

Students will rotate through the Internal Medicine Department with emphasis on:

* Comprehensive medical history taking

* Physical examination

* Clinical reasoning and differential diagnosis

* Daily ward rounds

* Management of common medical disorders

* Interpretation of laboratory investigations

* Interpretation of ECG and imaging

* Patient presentation and documentation

* Discharge planning and follow-up

Students will gain supervised exposure to:

* Chest pain assessment

* Acute coronary syndrome

* Heart failure

* Cardiac arrhythmias

* Hypertension

* Valvular heart disease

* Interpretation of ECGs

* Echocardiography indications

* Cardiac catheterization observation (when available)

Students will learn:

* Acute and chronic abdominal pain

* Upper and lower gastrointestinal bleeding

* Liver diseases

* Pancreatitis

* Inflammatory bowel disease

* Surgical outpatient clinics

* Emergency surgical admissions

* Daily ward rounds

* Operating theatre observation

* Preoperative assessment

* Postoperative management

* Surgical case presentations

* Wound care

* Drain management

* Minor bedside procedures under supervision

Orthopedics and Trauma

Students will gain exposure to:

* Fracture assessment

* Musculoskeletal examination

* Trauma management principles

* Plaster and splint application

* Orthopedic ward rounds

* Operating theatre observation

* Postoperative orthopedic rehabilitation

* Interpretation of musculoskeletal radiographs

* Initial stabilization of critically ill patients

* Plain radiography

* Radiation safety principles
