Overview

Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Fawzi Alqanbar serves as the Dean of the College of Medicine at Al-Subtain University. A distinguished academic leader and anatomical pathologist, he brings more than two decades of experience in medical education, academic administration, curriculum development, and pathology. His leadership is centered on advancing educational excellence, strengthening research and innovation, and preparing future physicians to meet the evolving healthcare needs of society through internationally recognized standards in medical education.


Biography

Dr. Mohammed Alqanbar has served as Dean of the College of Medicine at Al-Subtain University since 2024. Throughout his academic career, he has demonstrated a sustained commitment to excellence in medical education, institutional development, and academic leadership.

He earned his MBChB degree from Al-Mustansiriya University College of Medicine in 1998 before obtaining a Master of Science (MSc) in Clinical Chemistry from Al-Nahrain University College of Medicine in 2005. He subsequently completed the Fellowship of the Iraqi Board for Medical Specializations (FIBMS) in Histopathology, becoming a board-certified specialist in anatomical pathology. He also holds the Diploma of the Royal College of Pathologists (DipRCPath).

Prior to joining Al-Subtain University, Dr. Alqanbar dedicated more than twenty years to the College of Medicine at the University of Kerbala, where he held numerous academic and administrative leadership positions. During this period, he played an instrumental role in curriculum development, quality assurance, institutional planning, and the modernization of undergraduate medical education.

Recognized nationally for his expertise in medical education, Dr. Alqanbar has contributed significantly to the implementation of integrated medical curricula and the adoption of innovative teaching and assessment strategies that promote student-centered learning while aligning with international best practices.

In addition to his institutional responsibilities, he serves as a member of the Scientific Council of Pathology, the national body responsible for specialist training and the Iraqi Board Fellowship in Pathology. Through this role, he contributes to postgraduate medical education, curriculum oversight, trainee assessment, and the professional development of future pathologists across Iraq.

As Dean, Dr. Alqanbar leads the College with a strategic vision focused on academic excellence, continuous quality improvement, research and innovation, international collaboration, and the development of highly competent, ethical, and compassionate physicians equipped to address the healthcare challenges of the future.
