Department of Histology and Anatomy

Basic Medical Sciences

Overview

The Department of Histology is one of the core basic medical science departments at the College of Medicine, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the microscopic structure of cells, tissues, and organs and their relationship to normal human function. The department integrates theoretical instruction with practical laboratory experience, enabling students to recognize normal histological structures and appreciate their relevance to physiology and disease.

The department is headed by Dr. Muntazer Mohammed Kani, Assistant Professor of Histology, whose academic and administrative experience supports the department's mission of excellence in teaching, research, and professional development.

Through modern laboratory facilities, light microscopy, digital imaging systems, and virtual microscopy resources, students develop essential diagnostic and analytical skills that support their future clinical training. In addition to its educational mission, the department promotes research in histology, cell biology, tissue regeneration, and regenerative medicine, fostering scientific inquiry among faculty and students. By maintaining high standards in teaching, research, and laboratory practice, the department prepares future physicians with a strong foundation in microscopic anatomy and biomedical sciences.

Mission

The Department of Histology is committed to delivering high-quality education in microscopic anatomy through comprehensive theoretical instruction and practical laboratory training. The department fosters scientific knowledge, critical thinking, and laboratory competence while promoting excellence in research, interdisciplinary collaboration, professional ethics, and lifelong learning. Through its educational and research activities, it prepares graduates capable of applying histological knowledge in clinical medicine, biomedical research, and healthcare practice.
