Biography

Dr. Haidar Hussein Sallum Al-Sarraf is an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and serves as the Head of the Department of Internal Medicine at the College of Medicine. He is a consultant physician with over two decades of experience in clinical practice, medical education, and postgraduate training.

Since joining the academic staff in 2007, Dr. Al-Sarraf has played a key role in educating undergraduate medical students while contributing extensively to postgraduate training in Internal Medicine and Family Medicine. Alongside his academic responsibilities, he provides specialized clinical care at Al-Hussein Medical City and the Karbala Center for Cardiology.

His professional interests include internal medicine, cardiovascular medicine, echocardiography, and postgraduate medical education.

Clinical Experience

Dr. Al-Sarraf completed his rotating internship at Al-Hussein Medical City, Karbala (1997–1999), followed by postgraduate residency training in Internal Medicine at Al-Yarmouk Teaching Hospital, Baghdad (2000–2004).

He served as a Specialist Physician at Al-Hussein Medical City and the Karbala Center for Cardiology from 2004 to 2017 before being appointed as a Consultant Physician in 2017.


Academic & Educational Contributions

Dr. Al-Sarraf has extensive experience in medical education and postgraduate supervision. His contributions include:

  • Teaching undergraduate medical students at the University of Karbala since 2007.
  • Teaching undergraduate medical students at Al-Ameed University since 2020.
  • Training postgraduate physicians in Internal Medicine through the Arab Board of Health Specializations.
  • Training postgraduate physicians in Family Medicine.
  • Head of the Karbala Training Center for the Arab Board of Health Specializations (Internal Medicine) since 2018.
